Lakme Fashion Week 2010 (Summer Resort)

It’s exciting, it’s fun and its fashionable! Any guesses? That’s right! I’m talking about the Lakme Fashion Week- Summer/Resort collection 2010! What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think ‘Resort’? Beach wear! But that’s not the only facet to Lakme Fashion Week 2010. Hues of the bright sea shore, colours of the blazing sun, reflections of flora and fauna of the deep sea brought out colours like sea green, fuchsia, deep blue, gold and orange.

The entire collection was predominantly Indian (surprised! Beaches and resorts actually reminded me of foreign locations and bikinis! :))

The major highlight was a smashing collection from Manish Malhotra. Traditional salwar and Kurta was transformed into beautiful leggings, off shoulder kurtas with embellishments on the piping. Pastel shades of pink, olive, white and dull gold made a glittering spectacle of sheer, net and flowing fabric that was smooth, trendy and graceful. The anarkali cut is going to be rage this season thanks to the beautiful depiction of churidars in satin along with geometric patterns strategically placed. Contrast piping and angled pockets completed the collection. With the models grooving to bollywood numbers like ‘Uff teri adaa!’ only showed his love for bollywood.

Emerging designers like Masaba had interesting and colourful designer wear adding colour and youthfulness to the fashion week. Canary yellow, Rani pink, black and white with a dash of bottle green was the core of her collection with silhouettes flowy, rustic and consumer friendly.
Lakme fashion week had all the glam and glitz contributed by a host of celebrities, page 3 socialites and the bollywood clan.

The Greygoose, Kingfisher and Gitanjali lounges had all the celebs, fashion icons, designers and models in high spirits!

Buyers lounge was a buyer’s paradise with different designers showcasing their collections for the season. Intricate designs, metallic and leather, sheer and net to slowly unveil the exotic designs beneath the overlying fabric formed the major part of the collections on display.

The atmosphere backstage was blazing hot! Models in their designer’s creations, the make-up area, briefing sessions, rehearsals and instructions, assistants, designers shouting orders to get the chaos in order finally turned into the most awesome classic fashion show with the best to offer!

The theme of Summer Resort Wear is about comfortable clothing, free spirited, independent women of Mumbai city. The ramp completely brought out this easy but trendy to wear collection, it being a beautiful and aesthetic blend of contemporary garments with urban seniblities thrown in to achieve a sense of desirability!

This is the version that goes to the magazine I work for… wait for the bitchy version for only the Axe Angels fans! ;)
